New Rates for Minimum Wage in Panama

By means of Executive Decree No.240 of December 28th of 2011, the new minimum wage was approved by the Panamanian government.

This regulation will rule for workers of the private sector. The new rate hikes up the wages by 15% to 18%, percentages that will be enforced depending on the commercial activities developed. Therefore, the new minimum wages to be paid will be within the range, of US$432.00 and U$490.00, per month, when the previous ranges were of US$376.00 to US$416.00.

The wage adjustment will be valid to journalists, reporters and housekeeper workers. In addition to that, a reclassification has been done for employees working at malls with more than 50 retail units, for which the new rate will be of 18%.
